Who is Omoda?

Omoda is a Chinese car brand within Chery, the automaker behind several export-focused marques. It emerged as a distinct name in the early 2020s, with the Omoda 5 as its first global model. The range is centred on SUVs, with petrol, hybrid and fully electric versions appearing as the line-up has grown.

Omoda models and how the range developed

The Omoda 5 is the range’s starting point and its longest-running model here, spanning 2023–2026. It is a compact crossover aimed at everyday family use, with a higher-riding cabin and a practical five-door shape. In EU registration figures, it leads the listed models with 30,462 registrations across 2023–2025.

The electric E5 joined in 2024, carrying the same model-family identity into battery-electric motoring. The larger Omoda 9 arrived in 2025 as a more substantial SUV, while the Omoda 5 HEV added a conventional hybrid choice. The Omoda 7 appears from 2026, extending the range between the 5 and 9. These newer lines mark a shift from a single core model to a broader SUV family.

Electrification and official figures

Electrification takes two forms in the range: the E5 is fully electric, while the 5 HEV is a hybrid. The Omoda 5 keeps a petrol option in the mix. The models therefore cover different ways of reducing or avoiding tailpipe emissions, without changing the range’s SUV focus.

Official registrations show the Omoda 9 at 7,327 in the EU during 2025, the E5 at 1,620 across 2024–2025, and the 5 HEV at 1,386 in 2025. Consumption and CO₂ figures depend on the exact version and market test cycle: WLTP or NEDC in Europe, EPA in the USA and the 5-cycle procedure in Canada can produce results that are not directly comparable.

Where Omoda cars appear

TheCarCodex currently lists Omoda models in European Union registration figures and UK vehicle certification figures. The first Omoda models reached the UK in 2024, with the 5 and E5 establishing the name there. The EU registrations begin earlier, reflecting the model’s earlier arrival in parts of Europe.
