Passenger airbag inflator may explode
Too much generant in the passenger airbag inflator may cause it to explode during deployment, sending metal and plastic debris into the vehicle and potentially causing severe injury. Dealers will replace the passenger-side airbag unit.
Official NHTSA recall text
- Component
- AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Defect
- VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH THE INFLATORS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG MODULES HAVING THE WRONG AMOUNT OF GENERANT.
- Consequence
- IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT WOULD TRIGGER A PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, TOO MUCH GENERANT CAN CAUSE THE INFLATOR MODULE TO EXPLODE. IF THE AIR BAG MODULE EXPLODES, METAL AND PLASTIC DEBRIS COULD CAUSE SEVERE INJURY TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
- Remedy
- DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG UNIT.
- Notes
- ALL VEHICLES INVOLVED HAS BEEN CORRECTED.
Rear axle lower link bolt may loosen
Uneven paint on the rear axle may allow the lower link nut to loosen. The bolt could detach, separating the link from the axle and increasing the risk of losing vehicle control. Dealers will replace the joint nut and bolt.
Official NHTSA recall text
- Component
- SUSPENSION:REAR
- Defect
- VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. PAINT WAS APPLIED UNEVENLY ON THE REAR AXLES, RESULTING IN INSUFFICIENT PAINT HARDNESS. SHOULD THIS OCCUR ON THE SURFACE THAT CONTACTS THE REAR AXLE LOWER LINK BRACKET BOLT HEAD AND/OR NUT, THE NUT MAY LOOSEN.
- Consequence
- THE BOLT COULD DETACH FULLY, CAUSING SEPARATION OF THE LOWER LINK FROM THE REAR AXLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
- Remedy
- DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR AXLE LOWER LINK JOINT NUT AND BOLT.
- Notes
- OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2000. Wiring harness terminal may fracture and stall the engine
A poorly crimped ground terminal may fracture, sending an erroneous high-speed signal to the control module. This may cut fuel, cause a no-start condition or stall the engine. Dealers will replace the wiring harness.
Official NHTSA recall text
- Component
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:FRONT UNDERHOOD
- Defect
- VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. A GROUND CONNECTION TERMINAL WAS NOT PROPERLY CRIMPED IN THE SUPPLIER'S ENGINE WIRING HARNESS MANUFACTURING LINE. THIS IMPROPER CRIMPING PROCESS CAN LEAVE AN IMPRESSION ON THE TERMINAL THAT WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A STRESS FRACTURE. S
- Consequence
- IF A TERMINAL IS FRACTURED, THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) CAN RECEIVE AN ERRONEOUS SIGNAL INDICATING A HIGH VEHICLE SPEED, THEREBY CAUSING THE PCM TO CUT THE FUEL, CAUSING A 'NO-START' CONDITION, OR A POSSIBLE ENGINE STALL.
- Remedy
- DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS ON THESE VEHICLES.
- Notes

Floor mat may interfere with accelerator pedal
The floor mat may shift and interfere with the accelerator, restricting its return to idle and increasing crash risk. Owners are asked to return the mat set and will be reimbursed for its cost and return shipping.
Official NHTSA recall text
- Component
- UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Defect
- VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MULTI-PURPOSE PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A DRIVER'S SIDE OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT RUBBER FLOOR MAT. REPEATED MOVEMENT OF THE DRIVER'S FEET AND ACTUATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN RESULT IN A SHIFTING OF THE MAT'S POSITION. THIS SHIFTING CAN CAUSE AN INTERFERENCE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.
- Consequence
- THIS COULD CAUSE A RESTRICTION OF THE PEDAL'S RETURN TO THE IDLE POSITION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy
- HONDA IS ASKING FOR THE RETURN OF THE FLOOR MAT SET AND WILL REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR THE COST OF THE RUBBER FLOOR MAT SET ALONG WITH ANY RETURN SHIPPING COSTS.

Voltage regulator may cause engine stall
A manufacturing error in the voltage regulator may cause excessive alternator charging, leading to engine control malfunction or an eventual stall. Dealers will replace the regulator.
Official NHTSA recall text
- Component
- ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
- Defect
- AN INTEGRATED CIRCUIT WITHIN THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR CAN CONTAIN MANUFACTURING ERRORS.
