What is the Citroën C5?
The C5 is a family-sized saloon and estate, built for drivers who need space for passengers and luggage. Comfort has long been part of Citroën’s identity, and the C5 carried that into the larger-car class. Its Hydractive suspension was a notable feature, though equipment varied between versions.
The first generation, C5 I (X3), ran from 2001 to 2008. C5 II (X7) followed from 2008 to 2017, with a more sculpted body. The two generations together span the model’s run from 2001 to 2017.
Engines and power
EU listings from 2010 to 2022 cover engines from 1.2 to 3.0 litres and power from 82 kW (111 PS) to 177 kW (241 PS). They include diesel, petrol, hybrid and other fuel entries. UK figures from 2001 to 2016 show 1.6- to 3.0-litre engines and power from 67 to 119 kW (91–162 PS). French listings from 2012 to 2015 give power from 82 to 177 kW (111–241 PS), with petrol and diesel versions.
How economical is the Citroën C5?
The lowest listed EU consumption for petrol, diesel and hybrid versions is 5.1 L/100 km on WLTP. The lowest UK figure is 4.1 L/100 km on NEDC, and France lists 4.3 L/100 km, also on NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different test procedures, so figures from these markets are not directly comparable.
The EU recorded 450,310 C5 registrations from 2010 to 2022. The 2.0-litre diesel was prominent in the early registration years, including a 120 kW (163 PS) version in the 2011 listing.
Where was the C5 sold?
The C5 appears in EU, UK and French listings. Their recorded periods differ: 2010 to 2022 in the EU, 2001 to 2016 in the UK, and 2012 to 2015 in France. The generations ran from 2001 to 2017. European consumption figures use WLTP or NEDC, depending on the listing, and the results reflect different test procedures.
