  1. ABS valve may reduce braking performance

Reported December 15, 2014Model years 2008–2009DVSA recall R/2014/181EU Safety Gate A12/1990/1416,388 vehicles affected

A sticking ABS valve may make the brake pedal feel spongy or travel too far, though the brakes will still function. The ABS system will be checked; the brake fluid will be replaced, and the valve will also be replaced if it fails the check.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    BRAKING PERFORMANCE MAY BE REDUCED
    Defect
On affected vehicles the ABS valve may stick. The brakes will still function but the driver may experience a spongy feel when operating the brake pedal or excessive pedal travel.
    Remedy
Carry out diagnostic check on ABS system. If outcome is within manufacturers specification drain and replace brake fluid. If outcome is not within manufacturer's specification replace ABS valve and drain and replace brake fluid.
  2. ABS valve may stick and reduce braking performance

    Reported December 15, 2014EU Safety Gate A12/2172/14

A sticking valve in the ABS module may reduce braking performance, make the brakes feel spongy and increase stopping distances. The remedy is to recall the product from end users.

    Official EU Safety Gate text
    Component
    Injuries
    Defect
null Vehicles may experience reduction in brake performance due to sticking of the valve within the ABS module (Anti-lock braking system). Brakes may feel spongy and stopping distances may become longer.
    Remedy
Recall of the product from end users
    Notes
    Notified by United Kingdom
  3. Brake corrosion may reduce braking performance

Reported August 28, 2012Model years 2007–2009DVSA recall R/2012/090349,884 vehicles affected

Incorrect brake fluid may corrode the ABS module and cause gel to affect a valve, increasing brake pedal travel and potentially reducing braking performance. Dealers will inspect the fluid, replace it and the reservoir cap where specified, and update the owner's manual.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
    BRAKING EFFICIENCY MAY BE AFFECTED
    Defect
Incorrect type of brake fluid installed at production could cause internal corrosion of the ABS module. This corrosion can lead to a gel build up inside the module which may affect the closing motion of one of the valves. There will be no external loss of fluid or reduction in fluid level but it is possible the driver could feel excessive brake pedal travel. In some circumstances there may be reduced braking performance.
    Remedy
Inspection of the brake fluid using a scan tool. Drain and replace the fluid and replace the brake fluid reservoir cap (All models except Captiva & Epica/Tosca). Erase ''DOT 3'' text from the customers Owner's Manual (All models except Captiva & Epica/Tosca). Add information regarding the use of DOT 4 brake fluid.
  4. Front seat belt buckle may not latch

Reported October 19, 2009Model years 2009DVSA recall R/2009/0891,741 vehicles affected

A manufacturing error may prevent a front seat belt buckle from locking, leaving the belt inoperative. The belts will be inspected and affected buckles replaced.

    Official DVSA recall text
    Component
FRONT SEAT BUCKLE WILL NOT LATCH
    Defect
It has been identified that due to a manufacturing error the front seatbelt buckles may not lock when the user attempts to fasten the seatbelt thus rendering the seatbelt inoperative.
    Remedy
Recalled vehicles will have the front seatbelts inspected to ascertain whether they are in the affected range. Should this be the case the buckles will be replaced.
