OBD-II fault code

U3566: Anode Inlet Pressure Sensor 1 Circuit

What it means

Generic fault on the anode inlet pressure sensor 1 (hydrogen pressure into the stack). A communication loss with this module breaks any function relying on its data — diagnostic tools may show 'no response' and dependent modules can fall into limp mode.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

Anode inlet pressure sensor 1 measures hydrogen pressure entering the fuel-cell stack, and its readings are sent to the control modules over the vehicle network. This code indicates a fault in communication with sensor 1, so the receiving module may have no usable pressure data.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and scan all modules for communication codes to see whether the fault is limited to sensor 1 or affects other network devices.
  2. Check whether the scan tool can identify and communicate with anode inlet pressure sensor 1, and note any no-response status.
  3. Inspect sensor 1's connector and wiring for loose pins, corrosion, damage, or disturbed network wiring.
  4. Check the sensor's power, ground, and communication circuit against the manufacturer's wiring information.
  5. If other devices on the same network also fail to communicate, have the CAN wiring, gateway routing, and terminating resistance checked against manufacturer specifications before replacing the sensor.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair damaged wiring at sensor 1's connector.
  • Repair a failed power or ground connection to sensor 1.
  • Replace anode inlet pressure sensor 1 if its supply and network circuits are sound but it remains unresponsive.
  • Repair a confirmed CAN wiring or gateway routing fault.
  • Replace a CAN terminating resistor only if testing confirms it is out of specification.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid relying on the vehicle for normal use if warnings, reduced power, or fuel-cell shutdown occur; the system may lack hydrogen inlet pressure data. If the vehicle is operating normally, arrange prompt diagnosis and stop driving if it loses power or displays a system shutdown warning.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
