What it means
The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with smart HVAC fresh-air / recirculation actuator. Air-intake mode falls back to fresh-air or last-known position.
How it works
The air intake actuator operates the HVAC fresh-air and recirculation flap. U065D sets when a control module stops receiving the actuator's expected network messages, so the system may remain in its default or last-known intake position instead of changing modes as requested.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Bus wiring open or shorted
- Module without power or ground
- Module failed
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan the HVAC and other modules for freeze-frame data and related communication faults to see whether the air intake actuator is the only device offline.
- Switch between fresh-air and recirculation modes and observe whether airflow or scan-tool actuator data changes.
- Inspect the air intake actuator connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or damage near the intake flap.
- Check the actuator's specified fuse, power, and ground because a loss of supply can stop communication.
- Test the actuator's network wiring for opens, shorts, and poor connections to the manufacturer's specification before assessing the actuator or module.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or secure the air intake actuator connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or corroded terminals at the actuator.
- Restore the actuator's power or ground after correcting the cause.
- Replace the air intake actuator or its module if testing confirms it has failed.
Can I keep driving?
The fault generally affects fresh-air and recirculation control rather than basic vehicle operation. Driving is usually possible, but use fresh air if recirculation causes misting or poor cabin air, and ensure the windshield stays clear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
