OBD-II fault code

U0607: Lost Communication With Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B

What it means

The vehicle bus reports loss of communication with smart throttle/pedal position sensor B. The ECM loses one of the redundant pedal channels and reverts to a fail-safe pedal map.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

A smart throttle or pedal position sensor sends redundant accelerator-pedal channel data to the engine control module over the vehicle network. U0607 sets when the network stops delivering data from channel B, so the module cannot verify that channel and may use a fail-safe pedal response.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Bus wiring open or shorted
  2. Module without power or ground
  3. Module failed

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan all modules for communication codes to see when the channel B message disappeared and whether other network faults occurred at the same time.
  2. Check live data for throttle or pedal position channels A and B and confirm whether only channel B is missing or frozen.
  3. Inspect the channel B sensor connector and nearby bus wiring for loose terminals, corrosion, damage, or shorts.
  4. Check the sensor or module power and ground circuits against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Test the relevant network wiring for opens or shorts, then assess the channel B sensor module only after its wiring and supply are verified.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded channel B connector.
  • Repair damaged or shorted bus wiring to the channel B sensor.
  • Restore the sensor module's power or ground connection.
  • Replace the channel B sensor module if its network connection, power, and ground are sound but it still does not communicate.

Can I keep driving?

Drive only as needed to reach a safe place or repair facility; reduced or unpredictable accelerator response can make merging and passing unsafe. Avoid hard acceleration, and stop if the vehicle cannot maintain a safe speed.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
