What it means
A receiving module detected implausible data from the haptic control module. Vibration command values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.
How it works
The Haptic Control Module manages vibration feedback, such as tactile alerts, and sends command or status data to other modules. U0580 is set when a receiving module rejects the haptic module's vibration-command values as implausible; it does not by itself identify a failed vibration actuator.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module internal fault or sensor input drift
- Software version mismatch after replacement
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and save freeze-frame and communication data to determine which module rejected the Haptic Control Module's message and whether related faults are present.
- Check live data for haptic commands and status, and see whether implausible values coincide with a specific alert or operating condition.
- Inspect the Haptic Control Module connectors and harness for loose pins, corrosion, moisture, or damage.
- Check the module's power, ground, and network circuits against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuits pass, check for a software or configuration mismatch and test the module's network messages and gateway routing using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure or clean a loose or corroded Haptic Control Module connector.
- Repair damaged module power, ground, or network wiring.
- Apply the correct software update or configuration if the module was replaced or reprogrammed.
- Replace the Haptic Control Module if it continues to transmit implausible vibration data after circuit and software checks.
- Repair the gateway if testing confirms that it alters or misroutes the haptic module's messages.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle may remain driveable, but tactile alerts can be missing or unreliable. Pay attention to visual and audible warnings until the haptic system is repaired.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
