What it means
A receiving module detected implausible data from headlamp leveling control module A. Pitch angle or actuator position values fail plausibility checks and are rejected; auto-leveling reverts to fixed position.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
How it works
Headlamp leveling control module A reports pitch or actuator-position information so the system can aim the headlamps as the vehicle's load or angle changes. A receiving module sets U0482 when those reported values are implausible and rejected; automatic leveling may then fall back to a fixed aim.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module internal fault or sensor input drift
- Software version mismatch after replacement
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan the lighting and body modules for U0482 and related leveling or communication codes, and save freeze-frame data before clearing codes.
- Check live pitch-angle and actuator-position data for headlamp leveling module A, and note whether values change plausibly as vehicle position or load changes.
- Inspect module A's connectors, wiring, and any associated leveling linkages or position sensors identified by the vehicle service information for damage, looseness, or disconnection.
- Check module A's power, ground, and network circuits using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
- If the headlamp module, suspension sensor, or related component was recently replaced, check for required configuration or calibration and repeat the scan-tool checks.
- If the data remains implausible, follow the manufacturer's procedure to isolate module A, its input sensor or actuator, or a network fault.
Common fixes
- Reconnect or repair damaged wiring, connectors, or leveling linkages associated with module A.
- Restore a faulty power, ground, or network connection.
- Perform the specified configuration or calibration after relevant component replacement.
- Replace module A or a confirmed faulty input sensor or actuator after circuit checks pass.
Can I keep driving?
Headlamp leveling may be disabled or fixed at an unsuitable aim, which can reduce your view or dazzle other road users. Check that the lights provide safe visibility and arrange prompt repair, especially before night driving or carrying changing loads.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
