What it means
A receiving module detected implausible data from parking assist module A. Ultrasonic distance values or trajectory commands fail plausibility checks and are rejected, suspending automated parking.
How it works
Parking assist control module A processes ultrasonic distance information or commands used by the parking-assist system, including automated parking where fitted. U045A is set when a receiving module rejects data from module A as implausible, so parking assistance may be suspended even if the vehicle can still be driven normally.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module internal fault or sensor input drift
- Software version mismatch after replacement
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan parking-assist and other modules for U045A and related sensor or network codes, saving freeze-frame data before clearing faults.
- Check whether parking sensors, distance displays, or automated-parking functions are disabled or giving inconsistent readings.
- Inspect the parking sensors and visible bumper wiring for dirt, impact damage, misalignment, or loose connectors.
- Use a scan tool to compare each ultrasonic sensor's reported distance with nearby obstacles and identify whether the error is limited to a sensor group handled by module A.
- Check module A connectors and network wiring for corrosion, damage, or disturbed connections.
- If the module or sensors were replaced, verify required software configuration and calibration, then test module A and its network using manufacturer procedures.
Common fixes
- Clean an obstructed parking sensor and remove any material covering it.
- Repair a damaged sensor connector or bumper harness associated with module A.
- Correct module configuration or perform the manufacturer's required calibration after replacement.
- Repair or replace a sensor or parking-assist module A if testing confirms it supplies invalid data.
- Repair the gateway or network path if the sensor data is valid at its source but arrives corrupted.
Can I keep driving?
You can generally drive if the vehicle handles normally, but park manually and do not rely on automated parking or distance warnings until repaired. Use extra care around pedestrians and obstacles because the system may miss them or report the wrong distance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
