What it means
The reporting module has lost communication with digital audio control module A. It sets this code when expected messages from that module are not received for a specified time.
How it works
Digital Audio Control Module A manages a designated part of the vehicle's digital audio system and exchanges status and control messages over the network. U0193 sets when the reporting module misses the expected messages from module A for its timeout period.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module power or ground fault
- Damaged or corroded network wiring or connectors
- CAN bus short or open circuit
- Digital audio module failure
- Low battery voltage
Symptoms
- Audio functions unavailable or intermittent
- Audio system warning or error message
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and save freeze-frame data and other communication codes to check whether only digital audio module A is offline or the network has wider faults.
- Check battery condition and charging voltage, as low voltage can interrupt audio module communication.
- Inspect module A's power and ground connections and network connector for corrosion, poor fit, or damaged wiring.
- Trace the network branch to digital audio module A and check for an open or short using the vehicle wiring diagram.
- If power and ground are correct, test network communication at module A and compare measurements with the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reseat or clean module A's network connector.
- Repair damaged power, ground, or network wiring at digital audio module A.
- Correct low battery voltage or a charging fault.
- Repair a confirmed CAN bus fault affecting module A.
- Replace or reprogram digital audio control module A if testing confirms internal failure.
Can I keep driving?
Audio functions assigned to digital audio module A may be intermittent or unavailable, but this code alone does not usually affect engine operation or emissions. Driving is generally unaffected unless other codes identify a problem with a vehicle control or warning system.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
