What it means
A control module has lost communication with body control module E. It sets the code when expected messages from that module are not received within the calibrated time.
How it works
Body control module E manages body-related functions and communicates their status to other modules over the vehicle network. This code sets when another module does not receive BCM E's expected messages within the calibrated time, which can result from a power or ground fault, a bad connector, network wiring damage, module failure, or low voltage.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Body module power or ground fault
- Damaged communication bus wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
- Faulty body control module
- Low system voltage
Symptoms
- Body or electrical warning lights
- Inoperative body features
- Multiple warning messages
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and inspect freeze-frame data to establish when BCM E communication was lost and whether other communication faults were recorded.
- Check battery condition and charging-system operation because low voltage can interrupt module communication.
- Identify BCM E's functions from service information and check which are inoperative, along with which modules can still reach it.
- Inspect BCM E's connector, power and ground connections, and accessible network wiring for corrosion, looseness, water entry, or damage.
- Test BCM E's power and ground under load, then check the network circuit for an open, short, or poor connection against the manufacturer's specification.
- If supply and network tests pass, use the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to determine whether BCM E has failed.
Common fixes
- Charge or replace a weak battery and fix a charging-system fault if found.
- Clean and secure BCM E connector terminals and repair damaged wiring.
- Repair a BCM E power or ground fault identified by testing.
- Repair a short, open, or poor connection in the communication bus wiring.
- Replace or configure BCM E only if diagnosis confirms a module fault.
Can I keep driving?
The code can leave body functions controlled by BCM E unavailable even if the vehicle still runs normally. Check essential lighting, visibility, and starting before driving, and avoid driving if any safety-related function is affected.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
