What it means
A control module has lost communication with body control module D. It sets the code when expected messages from that module are not received within the calibrated time.
How it works
Body control module D handles body-related functions and sends messages to other modules over the vehicle network. This code sets when the reporting module fails to receive BCM D's expected messages within the vehicle's calibrated time, often because of a supply, ground, connector, network, or low-voltage problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Body module power or ground fault
- Damaged communication bus wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
- Faulty body control module
- Low system voltage
Symptoms
- Body or electrical warning lights
- Inoperative body features
- Multiple warning messages
- Other communication codes
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and review freeze-frame data to see when BCM D messages stopped and whether other communication codes appeared at the same time.
- Check battery condition and charging-system operation to rule out low system voltage affecting several modules.
- Use service information to identify BCM D's functions, then check which are unavailable and which modules can still communicate with it.
- Inspect BCM D's connector, power and ground connections, and network wiring for looseness, corrosion, water entry, or damage.
- Test BCM D power and ground under load and check the network circuit for opens, shorts, or excessive connection resistance using the manufacturer's specifications.
- If its supplies and network connections are sound, follow the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to assess BCM D before replacement.
Common fixes
- Charge or replace a weak battery and repair a charging-system fault.
- Secure or clean BCM D connector terminals and repair any damaged wiring.
- Repair BCM D power or ground connections that fail testing.
- Repair an open, short, or poor connection in the communication bus wiring.
- Replace or configure BCM D only if the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure confirms module failure.
Can I keep driving?
You may be able to drive if the vehicle operates normally, but body features controlled by BCM D may not work. Avoid driving if lighting, visibility, starting, or another safety-related function is affected.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
