What it means
A fault is detected on the positive conductor of vehicle communication bus F; the code descriptor specifies a low condition. Which functions are affected depends on the vehicle’s network design.
How it works
Bus F carries messages between the modules connected to that network, with positive and negative conductors forming the communication path. This code means the bus F positive conductor is being detected at an abnormally low electrical level, which can disrupt messages on the network.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground or damaged bus F positive wire
- Loose or corroded connector
- A module or gateway fault
Symptoms
- Communication faults in modules using bus F
- Warning lights or messages
- Functions relying on bus F may be unavailable
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and record freeze-frame data and related network codes to see which bus F modules are affected and under what conditions.
- Use the vehicle network diagram to identify bus F's positive conductor and the modules and gateways connected to it.
- Inspect that conductor and its connectors for chafing against the body, crushed insulation, corrosion, water intrusion, or loose terminals that could pull the line low.
- Following the manufacturer's isolation procedure, test the positive conductor for a short to ground and check its electrical condition at accessible connectors.
- If the wiring is sound, use the manufacturer's procedure to isolate bus F modules and check whether a gateway or module is pulling the positive line low.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a loose or corroded bus F connector.
- Repair insulation damage or a short to ground on the bus F positive wire.
- Replace a damaged connector or terminal on the positive conductor.
- Repair or replace a confirmed module or gateway pulling bus F positive low.
Can I keep driving?
Driving may be possible if the vehicle remains controllable and the affected functions are not safety-critical, but bus F functions may fail or warnings may appear. Stop and arrange help if the fault affects steering, braking, powertrain control, or other essential systems.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
