OBD-II fault code

P2E60: Cylinder 8 Alternative Fuel Misfire Detected

What it means

Misfire detected on cylinder 8 during alternative fuel operation. Specific to bi-fuel CNG/LPG operation.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The controller monitors crankshaft speed for incomplete combustion while the engine uses alternative fuel. This code assigns the misfire to cylinder 8, so its alternative-fuel injector and wiring should be checked specifically, especially if petrol operation is smooth.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Injector clogged or weak
  2. Fuel quality off-spec

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on or flashing
  • Rough idle and uneven running
  • Power loss, hesitation under acceleration
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Possible smell of unburned fuel from exhaust

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and cylinder-by-cylinder misfire counts to confirm cylinder 8 involvement during alternative-fuel operation.
  2. Compare the engine's behaviour on alternative fuel and petrol to see whether the cylinder 8 misfire is limited to one mode.
  3. Inspect cylinder 8's alternative-fuel injector, electrical connector, and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose fit, or leakage.
  4. Check the alternative fuel's quality and supply conditions, noting any recent refill or symptoms that appear under load.
  5. Test cylinder 8's alternative-fuel injector operation and delivery relative to the other cylinders and the manufacturer's specification.
  6. If cylinder 8 also misfires on petrol, inspect its ignition components and mechanical condition.

Common fixes

  • Repair a loose or damaged connection at the cylinder 8 alternative-fuel injector.
  • Refill with known-good alternative fuel if fuel quality is in doubt.
  • Clean or replace the cylinder 8 alternative-fuel injector if testing confirms weak or restricted flow.
  • Repair a confirmed alternative-fuel supply or pressure-regulation fault.

Can I keep driving?

Stop if the check-engine light flashes or the engine runs very roughly; continued misfire can overheat the catalytic converter. If petrol mode runs smoothly, use it if available and arrange prompt diagnosis of cylinder 8.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
