What it means
The control circuit of generator B reports a range/performance condition. Generator response or feedback outside calibration.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator B is one of the vehicle's motor-generator units, and its control circuit carries command or feedback information to the hybrid control module. This range/performance code sets when Generator B's feedback or response is outside the expected calibration, rather than simply indicating a high or low circuit voltage.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Feedback signal drifted
- High-resistance contact in connector
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check-engine or hybrid-system warning
- Reduced charging or electric-drive performance
- Possible reduced power
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare Generator B command and feedback values with Generator A or other available hybrid data.
- Inspect Generator B's control-circuit connectors and harness for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or poor routing.
- Check for related inverter, generator, or hybrid-system codes that may explain an abnormal Generator B response.
- Test the Generator B feedback circuit for excessive resistance, poor connections, or an out-of-range signal using the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit tests correctly, evaluate the sensor or feedback element and Generator B response using the vehicle's service procedure.
Common fixes
- Secure or clean a poor Generator B control-circuit connection.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance wiring in the Generator B feedback circuit.
- Replace a feedback sensor or element that fails the manufacturer's test.
- Repair or replace Generator B or its control electronics only if circuit checks isolate the fault there.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if electric-drive performance or power is reduced, and avoid heavy loads until diagnosed. A continuing Generator B control fault can lead to charging limits or reduced hybrid operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
