OBD-II fault code

P2D0D: Motor Electronics Coolant Pump C Supply Voltage Circuit

What it means

Motor electronics coolant pump C reports a supply voltage circuit condition. Power electronics cooling is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Motor electronics coolant pump C needs electrical supply to circulate coolant through the power electronics. The control module monitors its supply circuit and sets this code when that circuit has an electrical fault, which can prevent pump C from operating.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Supply fuse blown
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or hybrid-system warning
  • Power limited warning
  • Reduced performance under load

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and pump C status to establish whether the supply fault appears continuously or under particular conditions.
  2. With the system safely powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect pump C’s supply connector and harness for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or a pushed-back pin.
  3. Check the pump C supply fuse and determine whether it is open; investigate the cause if it has blown.
  4. Test the supply and ground circuits at pump C under load, comparing results with the manufacturer’s specification.
  5. If wiring and fuse are sound, check pump C for an internal electrical fault that could interrupt or overload its supply.

Common fixes

  • Replace a blown supply fuse after checking for a short or overload in the circuit.
  • Reconnect or repair a loose, corroded, or damaged pump C connector or wire.
  • Repair an open or high-resistance supply or ground connection.
  • Replace pump C if its internal fault is causing the supply-circuit condition.

Can I keep driving?

Keep driving only if the vehicle has no power-limited or hybrid-system warning and is behaving normally; avoid heavy loads and stop if a warning or loss of power occurs. Pump C may not cool the power electronics, so have the fault checked promptly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
