What it means
The hybrid electronics coolant pump A is mechanically stuck or has stalled. Power electronics cooling is severely reduced or absent.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Hybrid/EV electronics coolant pump A moves coolant through the power-electronics cooling loop. This code sets when the module detects that pump A is stuck or stalled, leaving little or no coolant circulation and sharply reducing electronics cooling.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Pump impeller jammed
- Motor seized
Symptoms
- Check-engine light or hybrid-system warning
- Reduced hybrid power or performance
- Hybrid-system temperature warning
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and live pump A command, speed, and hybrid temperature values to determine whether the pump was commanded on but not turning.
- Check the vehicle for a hybrid-system temperature warning and inspect the pump A loop for leaks or an obvious coolant-flow obstruction.
- With the system made safe according to the manufacturer's high-voltage procedures, inspect pump A wiring, connector, and grounds for damage or loose contact.
- Check pump supply and ground under load against the manufacturer's specification.
- If electrical supply is correct, test the pump impeller and motor for a jam or seizure using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or damaged pump A connector, power wire, or ground.
- Correct a confirmed obstruction in the coolant loop.
- Replace pump A if its impeller is jammed or motor has seized.
- Refill and bleed the affected loop according to the manufacturer's procedure after repairs.
Can I keep driving?
Do not continue driving if the hybrid-system temperature warning is on or power is reduced; a stalled pump can quickly overheat and damage power electronics. Arrange safe recovery if the warning persists.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
