What it means
Charge air cooler coolant pump A reports a supply voltage circuit condition. Charge air cooling loop circulation is impaired.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The charge air cooler coolant pump A circulates coolant through the loop that removes heat from the turbocharger’s compressed intake air. The engine control module monitors the pump’s supply-voltage circuit and sets P2BC2 when that circuit’s electrical condition is outside the expected range, which can stop or limit circulation.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Supply fuse blown
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power
- Higher intake-air temperature or reduced performance under load
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and check live pump-command and supply-voltage readings to see whether the fault occurs when pump A is requested.
- With the system off, inspect pump A’s fuse, wiring, and connector for a blown fuse, damage, moisture, corrosion, or loose pins.
- Check the fuse and supply path for power and continuity using the manufacturer’s procedure, and look for a short or open in the wiring.
- If supply reaches the pump connector, compare the pump’s response and current draw with the manufacturer’s specification to distinguish a pump fault from a supply-circuit fault.
- After repairs, clear the code and confirm pump operation and intake-air temperature under conditions similar to the freeze frame.
Common fixes
- Replace a blown pump A supply fuse after checking for the cause.
- Repair damaged or corroded supply wiring and secure the connector.
- Replace charge air cooler coolant pump A if its electrical response is outside specification.
Can I keep driving?
If power is reduced or intake-air temperatures rise, avoid hard acceleration, towing, and sustained high-load driving because charge-air cooling may be impaired. Stop if the engine overheats or the vehicle enters a severe power-limited state.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
