OBD-II fault code

P2BC1: Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump A Stuck/Stalled

What it means

Charge air cooler coolant pump A reports a stuck/stalled condition. Charge air cooling loop circulation is impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Charge air cooler coolant pump A circulates coolant through the charge-air cooling loop to remove heat from compressed intake air. This code sets when the module detects that pump A is stuck or stalled, so coolant circulation and charge-air cooling are impaired.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Pump impeller jammed
  2. Motor seized

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Reduced engine power
  • Higher intake-air temperature or reduced performance under load

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check charge-air temperature and pump A command or status, if available, to see whether temperature rises or the pump fails to respond under load.
  2. With the engine cool, inspect the pump A connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  3. Check the charge-air cooler coolant level and look for visible leaks that could interfere with pump operation.
  4. Use the manufacturer's procedure to confirm whether pump A receives its commanded power and ground and whether it draws current while commanded on.
  5. If electrical supply is present, check for a jammed impeller or seized pump motor and replace the failed pump as indicated.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or repair corroded charge-air cooler pump A wiring and terminals.
  • Correct a low coolant level and repair any leak in the charge-air cooling loop.
  • Remove an impeller obstruction if the pump is serviceable.
  • Replace charge air cooler coolant pump A if its motor is seized or it remains stalled with proper power.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid sustained heavy acceleration, towing, and high-load driving while charge-air cooling is impaired, especially if power is reduced. Intake temperatures can rise under load and the engine may limit power to protect itself.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
