OBD-II fault code

P2AAC: Diesel Fuel Presence Sensor Circuit

What it means

The ECM detects a generic fault on the diesel fuel presence sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The diesel fuel presence sensor provides a reading used by the engine control module to assess the fuel system; its exact application can vary by vehicle. This circuit code means the module has detected a fault that makes the sensor reading unreliable, without specifying whether the signal is too low, too high, or implausible.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor failed
  2. Wiring or connector fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light on
  • Fuel-system warning light, if equipped
  • Reduced power or rough running

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and check related fuel-system warnings and live sensor data to see whether the circuit fault coincides with rough running or reduced power.
  2. Locate the diesel fuel presence sensor using vehicle service information and inspect its connector and wiring for damage, moisture, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  3. Check the sensor's power, ground, and signal circuit connections against the wiring diagram, looking for opens, shorts, or excessive resistance.
  4. If supported by the scan tool, compare the sensor reading with related fuel-system data and note whether it is missing, fixed, or changing implausibly.
  5. If the wiring and supply circuits pass, test the sensor according to the manufacturer's procedure and replace it only if it fails.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean a loose or corroded sensor connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or restore an open or poor ground in the sensor circuit.
  • Replace the diesel fuel presence sensor if it fails testing.
  • Clear the code and confirm the sensor reading and fuel-system operation after repair.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs normally and no fuel-system warning indicates contamination, limit driving and arrange diagnosis soon. Avoid hard acceleration; stop if the engine runs roughly, loses power, or a fuel contamination warning appears, since unreliable fuel information can affect engine operation.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
