What it means
The alternative fuel hydraulic pressure sensor circuit signal is higher than expected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The alternative-fuel hydraulic pressure sensor reports pump pressure to the control module. P2A7D sets when the circuit signal is higher than expected, which can be caused by a signal wire shorted to battery voltage, an open pressure sensor, or poor contact at corroded connector pins.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open pressure sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Alternative-fuel system warning light, if equipped
- Reduced power or poor acceleration
- Hard starting or stalling
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review live hydraulic pressure readings to determine when the high signal appeared.
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or a signal wire contacting a B+ source.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the sensor supply, ground, and signal circuits for continuity and shorts to battery voltage.
- Compare the pressure reading and sensor signal with the manufacturer's specification under the conditions recorded in the freeze frame.
- If the circuit is sound, test the sensor for an open circuit and replace it if it fails the manufacturer's checks.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose pressure sensor terminals.
- Repair wiring where the signal circuit is shorted to B+ or has damaged insulation.
- Replace the pressure sensor if testing confirms it is open.
Can I keep driving?
The high reading may cause reduced power, hard starting, or stalling as the alternative-fuel system responds to unreliable pressure data. Avoid demanding driving and stop safely if the vehicle stalls or loses power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
