What it means
The alternative fuel hydraulic pressure sensor circuit has a fault, so the control module may not be able to read pressure correctly.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The alternative-fuel hydraulic pressure sensor measures pressure in the hydraulic system and sends its signal to the control module. P2A7A indicates a fault in that sensor circuit that prevents a reliable pressure reading; the sensor itself or its wiring and connector may be at fault.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Pressure sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Alternative-fuel system warning light, if equipped
- Reduced power or poor acceleration
- Hard starting or stalling
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live alternative-fuel hydraulic pressure readings for missing, implausible, or unstable values.
- Inspect the pressure sensor connector and harness at the hydraulic pump for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, or broken wires.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the sensor supply, ground, and signal circuits for continuity and unwanted shorts.
- Compare the sensor signal and scan-tool pressure reading with the manufacturer's specification during the relevant operating conditions.
- If the circuit checks out, test the pressure sensor and replace it only if it fails the manufacturer's checks.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a loose or corroded pressure sensor connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor connections in the sensor supply, ground, or signal circuit.
- Replace the alternative-fuel hydraulic pressure sensor if circuit tests confirm it is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Reduced power, hard starting, or stalling may occur if the module cannot read hydraulic pressure correctly. Limit driving and avoid heavy loads; stop safely if the engine stalls or becomes difficult to control.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
