What it means
The controller cannot drive the transmission fluid cooler control valve or fan. Active cooling cannot be commanded so transmission fluid temperature can rise during heavy use.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The transmission fluid cooler control circuit operates a valve or fan that helps regulate transmission fluid temperature. P2753 indicates the controller detects an open circuit and cannot drive that cooling component, so commanded active cooling may be unavailable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open coil in cooler control solenoid
- Broken control wire
Symptoms
- Check engine or transmission warning light on
- Harsh, delayed, or missing shifts
- Possible limp mode (locked in one gear)
- Slipping or shuddering during gear changes
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check transmission fluid temperature and cooler-control command data, if available, to understand when the fault occurred.
- Inspect the cooler control component connector and wiring for disconnection, broken conductors, corrosion or heat damage.
- Check the cooler control solenoid coil for an open circuit using the manufacturer's procedure.
- Test continuity through the control wiring and its connections to the transmission controller, following the wiring diagram.
- If the wiring and coil pass, check the controller's output using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose cooler control connector.
- Repair a broken cooler control wire or damaged terminal.
- Replace the cooler control solenoid if its coil is open.
- Repair the cooler control circuit connection at the controller if testing identifies an open there.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid towing, steep climbs, heavy loads and extended driving, which can raise transmission fluid temperature when active cooling is unavailable. If the transmission warning appears with slipping, shuddering or missing shifts, stop driving and arrange inspection.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
