What it means
A fault is detected in the injector control pressure regulator circuit. The code does not establish that the vehicle uses a particular injector or fuel-rail design.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The injector control pressure regulator is an electrically controlled valve or actuator used to manage injection-control pressure on vehicles equipped with that system. The module monitors the regulator circuit for continuity and sets P2623 when it detects an open circuit, such as a broken wire or an open regulator coil. This code does not identify a particular injector or fuel-rail design.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open coil in the pressure regulator
- Broken control wire
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Hard starting, rough running, or reduced engine power
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and related codes first to see whether hard starting or rough running began with the circuit fault.
- With the ignition off, inspect the pressure regulator connector and nearby harness for a loose plug, damaged insulation, or a broken wire.
- Check that the regulator connector terminals are seated and free of corrosion, paying particular attention to any pin pushed back in the housing.
- Use the wiring diagram to check continuity through the regulator control circuit and its wiring, looking for an open between the module and regulator.
- Measure the regulator coil according to the manufacturer's specification; an open reading points to a failed coil.
- If the wiring and coil pass, check the module connector and output circuit for an open before considering a module fault.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure a loose regulator connector.
- Repair a broken control wire or damaged connector terminal.
- Clean or replace corroded terminals and restore a sound connection.
- Replace the regulator if its coil is open.
- Repair the module-side circuit or replace the module only after confirming the open is not in the harness or regulator.
Can I keep driving?
A short, cautious drive may be possible if the engine runs smoothly, but hard starting, rough running, or reduced power can make the vehicle unreliable. Avoid towing or heavy acceleration, and stop if it stalls or loses power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
