What it means
The throttle position output circuit voltage is above the expected level. This code does not identify a particular downstream module or failed component.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The throttle position output circuit carries a throttle-position signal to other vehicle electronics, without identifying which downstream module receives it. P2622 sets when the output voltage is higher than expected, which can be caused by a short to battery power, an open output buffer, or a poor connector contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Output wire shorted to B+
- Output buffer open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Reduced engine power or sluggish throttle response
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data to see when the throttle-position output rose above its expected range and whether response was affected.
- Inspect the output wire and connectors for damage, loose or corroded pins, or contact with a battery-power feed.
- Use the wiring diagram to check for a short to battery voltage and compare readings with the manufacturer's specification.
- Check output-wire continuity and connector contact to find an open or high-resistance connection.
- If wiring and connections pass, test the output buffer and control module using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose output-circuit connector pins.
- Repair the output wire if it is shorted to battery power or damaged.
- Repair or replace a failed output buffer or control module after confirming the circuit is sound.
Can I keep driving?
Drive only if throttle response remains predictable, and avoid situations that require quick acceleration. If the engine enters reduced power or the throttle becomes erratic, stop safely; the faulty signal can further limit engine response.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
