OBD-II fault code

P25DB: Fuel Level Sensor C Circuit Intermittent

What it means

The Fuel Level Sensor C circuit signal is intermittent or erratic. The code does not by itself identify whether the cause is wiring, a connector, the sender, or another circuit fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

Fuel Level Sensor C sends a changing electrical signal so the vehicle can estimate fuel level. P25DB means the circuit signal has become intermittent or erratic; the code does not identify whether the interruption is inside the sender, connector, or harness.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Tank module connector not fully seated
  2. Harness chafed near tank straps
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Fuel gauge may fluctuate or drop out
  • Fuel level warning may appear intermittently

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and look for related fuel-level codes to see when the Fuel Level Sensor C signal dropped out.
  2. Watch the scan-tool sensor reading while gently moving accessible wiring and connectors to see whether it changes unexpectedly.
  3. Inspect the tank-module connector for a loose fit, corrosion, or damaged terminals.
  4. Check the harness near the tank straps for chafing or a break that could open and close with vibration.
  5. If no wiring fault is visible, test the sender signal and circuit continuity using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure a loose tank-module connector.
  • Repair chafed or broken wiring near the tank straps.
  • Clean or replace terminals with intermittent contact.
  • Replace the sender if testing confirms its output drops out intermittently.

Can I keep driving?

You can usually continue driving if the vehicle runs normally, but the gauge may drop out and the fuel warning may appear unpredictably. Refuel early and track fuel use until the intermittent signal is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
