What it means
The Fuel Level Sensor C reading does not perform as expected. The code does not by itself establish a stuck float or worn resistor track.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
Fuel Level Sensor C reports fuel level through a changing electrical signal that the vehicle uses to estimate how much fuel remains. P25D8 sets when that signal does not change or respond as expected; it does not by itself prove the float or resistor track is defective.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Float arm stuck on baffle or fuel pump module
- Worn spot on the resistor track at common fill level
Symptoms
- Fuel gauge may fluctuate or read inaccurately
- Fuel level warning may appear at the wrong time
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare the Fuel Level Sensor C scan reading with the gauge and the actual fuel level.
- Observe the sensor reading as fuel level changes over time or during a manufacturer-approved sender test to confirm whether it responds smoothly.
- Inspect accessible wiring and the tank-module connector for loose connections, corrosion, or damage that could disrupt the reading.
- Following the manufacturer's procedure, check whether the float arm moves freely and catches on a tank baffle or pump module.
- If float movement is clear, test the sender's output across its range for worn spots or irregular readings.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or damaged connector causing an erratic Fuel Level Sensor C signal.
- Free a float arm that is catching on a baffle or pump module.
- Replace the sender if testing confirms an irregular or worn resistor track.
- Replace damaged tank-module wiring that prevents the sensor reading from following fuel level.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive if the vehicle otherwise runs normally, but the gauge may fluctuate and the low-fuel warning may be unreliable. Refuel early and keep track of mileage until the sensor's reading is dependable.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
