OBD-II fault code

P25D2: Exhaust Camshaft Actuator Park Lock Control Circuit High Bank 1

What it means

The exhaust camshaft actuator park-lock circuit on bank 1 is above the expected electrical threshold. This indicates a high circuit condition; the code alone does not identify its cause.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The exhaust camshaft actuator park-lock circuit on bank 1 controls the solenoid that holds the exhaust phaser in its parked position under specified conditions. P25D2 means the control module detected a circuit level above its expected threshold; the high condition alone does not show whether the cause is wiring, the solenoid connection, or the module driver.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Control wire shorted to a B+ supply
  2. ECU output driver stuck on
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and related actuator codes, including when the bank 1 exhaust circuit was reported high.
  2. Inspect the bank 1 exhaust park-lock connector and harness for damaged insulation, contact with a power feed, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  3. Check the circuit supply and control behavior against the vehicle wiring information and manufacturer's specifications.
  4. With the circuit isolated as directed by service information, test the bank 1 exhaust control wire for a short to battery voltage.
  5. If the wiring and solenoid pass, use supported scan-tool data or tests to evaluate whether the control-module output is stuck active.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged wiring that allows the bank 1 exhaust control circuit to contact a power feed.
  • Clean, secure, or repair faulty terminals at the park-lock solenoid connector.
  • Replace the solenoid if it fails the manufacturer's electrical test.
  • Repair the control-module output only after confirming the wiring and solenoid are sound.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs normally, drive gently only as needed to arrange diagnosis and avoid hard acceleration. Stop in a safe place if it stalls, runs roughly, or loses power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
