OBD-II fault code

P25CD: Intake Camshaft Actuator Park Lock Control Circuit / Open Bank 2

What it means

The intake camshaft actuator park-lock circuit on bank 2 is detected as open. The code identifies an electrical circuit fault; it does not by itself establish that the phaser cannot lock or that the engine will run poorly.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The intake camshaft actuator park-lock solenoid on bank 2 helps hold that bank's intake camshaft phaser in its parked position under the engine's specified conditions. The control module monitors the circuit and sets P25CD when it detects an open circuit; this points to the bank 2 intake electrical path, not automatically to a failed phaser.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open coil in the park-lock solenoid
  2. Broken control wire between ECU and solenoid

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and related camshaft or actuator codes, noting whether the fault occurred during starting or while running.
  2. Locate bank 2 and inspect the intake park-lock solenoid connector and its harness for disconnection, corrosion, heat damage, or a broken wire.
  3. Test the bank 2 intake solenoid coil and circuit continuity using the manufacturer's procedure and specifications.
  4. Check the wiring from the solenoid to the control module for an open, testing the circuit with components isolated as directed by service information.
  5. If the solenoid and wiring pass, use available scan-tool actuator data or commands to evaluate control-module operation.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect or clean and secure the bank 2 intake park-lock solenoid connector.
  • Repair an open or damaged wire in the bank 2 intake actuator circuit.
  • Replace the bank 2 intake park-lock solenoid if its coil is open.
  • Repair the control-module circuit only after the solenoid and wiring pass testing.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs smoothly and only the warning light is present, a short, gentle trip for diagnosis may be possible; avoid hard acceleration. Stop driving if it stalls, runs roughly, or loses power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
