What it means
The DPF on bank 2 has accumulated soot beyond the normal operating window. Active regeneration will be requested.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The bank 2 DPF traps soot from that exhaust bank, while pressure and other sensor data help the controller estimate restriction and request regeneration. P24A3 indicates that bank 2 soot accumulation has exceeded its normal operating range, so the system may request active regeneration.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Excessive soot accumulation from incomplete regenerations
- Frequent short trips or low-speed driving
- Faulty differential-pressure or soot-load sensor
- Restricted air intake or engine fault increasing soot
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live bank 2 soot-load and differential-pressure readings to confirm the restriction indication and compare with bank 1 if fitted.
- Inspect bank 2 differential-pressure sensor hoses for blockage, cracking, disconnection, or condensate that could give a misleading reading.
- Check bank 2 exhaust temperature sensor readings and inspect their wiring and connectors for damage.
- Inspect the bank 2 DPF and nearby exhaust for leaks or physical damage that could affect pressure measurements.
- Scan for engine faults or intake problems that could create excess soot, and check whether prior regenerations completed.
- Use the manufacturer's procedure to assess whether soot loading is low enough for a safe regeneration before attempting one.
Common fixes
- Clear or replace a blocked, cracked, or disconnected bank 2 pressure-sensor hose.
- Repair damaged sensor wiring or connectors on bank 2.
- Replace a pressure or temperature sensor that fails testing against the manufacturer's specification.
- Correct the engine or intake fault causing excessive soot.
- Perform a service regeneration if the DPF condition and soot load allow it.
Can I keep driving?
Limit short, low-speed trips and address the warning soon; continued soot accumulation can restrict bank 2 exhaust flow and lead to reduced power. Do not force a regeneration if the vehicle or service procedure says the soot load is too high.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
