OBD-II fault code

P2349: Cylinder 9 Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

Cylinder 9 pressure sensor reads in range but plausibility check fails. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The cylinder 9 pressure sensor reports combustion pressure for the engine's closed-loop control system. This code sets when the signal remains within its electrical range but does not behave plausibly for the engine's operating conditions, which can indicate sensor drift or a signal disturbance.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor signal implausible against engine model
  2. Sensor element drifted
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough running
  • Engine hesitation or reduced power

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare live cylinder 9 pressure readings with engine speed, load, and the other available cylinder data.
  2. Inspect the cylinder 9 sensor connector and harness for chafing, moisture, backed-out pins, or loose terminals.
  3. With live data available, gently move the cylinder 9 harness and connector to check whether the pressure reading changes erratically.
  4. Check the sensor signal and wiring against the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure for plausibility and continuity.
  5. If the circuit is stable but cylinder 9 pressure data remains implausible, test the sensor for drift and replace it only if confirmed.

Common fixes

  • Secure loose cylinder 9 sensor terminals or connector seals.
  • Repair chafed or damaged wiring in the cylinder 9 pressure-sensor circuit.
  • Correct moisture or corrosion at the connector and repair affected terminals.
  • Replace a cylinder 9 pressure sensor that fails the manufacturer's plausibility tests.

Can I keep driving?

You may be able to drive gently if the engine runs smoothly, but avoid heavy acceleration because inaccurate cylinder 9 pressure feedback can affect combustion control. Stop if hesitation or rough running becomes severe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
