OBD-II fault code

P22C6: Turbocharger Compressor Outlet Valve Control Circuit Low

What it means

The compressor outlet valve control circuit has a voltage below the expected range. This indicates an electrical circuit fault; the code alone does not establish a boost-pressure fault.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light

How it works

The compressor outlet valve controls pressure release from the turbocharger when the throttle closes. The control module monitors the valve's electrical control circuit, and this code sets when circuit voltage falls below the expected range, which points to an electrical fault such as a short to ground rather than proving a boost-pressure problem.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Reduced engine power or poor acceleration
  • Delayed or inconsistent boost response

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check for companion turbocharger codes to see under what conditions the low circuit reading occurred.
  2. Inspect the valve connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, or insulation rubbed through to ground.
  3. Using the wiring diagram, check the control circuit for a short to ground and verify connector pin fit.
  4. With the valve and module disconnected, test circuit continuity and isolation following the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the wiring passes, test the valve and control-module output as specified.

Common fixes

  • Repair wiring shorted to ground.
  • Clean or repair corroded or loose valve connector pins.
  • Replace damaged sections of the compressor outlet valve harness.
  • Replace the valve if it fails the specified electrical test.

Can I keep driving?

If the engine runs smoothly, a cautious drive to a repair location may be possible, but avoid hard acceleration and heavy loads. Reduced or inconsistent boost can affect acceleration, so stop if power loss or unusual turbo noise develops.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
