What it means
Water-in-fuel sensor reads above upper plausibility — open signal or short to B+. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The water-in-fuel Sensor A at the diesel filter detects water in the collected fuel and provides a signal to the control module. P2267 sets when that circuit reads higher than expected, commonly because the signal wire is open or shorted to battery voltage, or a connector has poor contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open signal line
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Supply wire pinched against B+ source
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may illuminate
- Water-in-fuel warning may appear incorrectly or fail to appear
- Usually no noticeable change in driving
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live data to verify that the Sensor A circuit remains high while the code is active.
- Inspect the sensor connector and harness for an unplugged connection, corrosion, moisture, pushed-back pins, or chafing against a power wire.
- Move the harness gently while monitoring the signal to see whether it drops or changes.
- Check the Sensor A signal wire for an open circuit or short to battery voltage using the wiring diagram.
- Test the sensor and module-side circuit using the manufacturer's procedure before replacing components.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a disconnected Sensor A plug or terminal.
- Repair an open or shorted signal wire in the water-in-fuel circuit.
- Clean or replace corroded or pushed-back connector terminals.
- Replace the sensor only if circuit testing confirms it is causing the high signal.
Can I keep driving?
Driving may feel unchanged, but the water-in-fuel warning may not work correctly, leaving water in the diesel filter undetected. Have the fault repaired soon to reduce the risk of fuel-system damage.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
