OBD-II fault code

P2094: B Camshaft Position Actuator Control Circuit Low (Bank 2)

What it means

The exhaust (B) camshaft phaser solenoid drive line on bank 2 is stuck low — short to ground or stuck-low driver.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The bank 2 exhaust camshaft actuator uses an oil control valve to direct oil to the exhaust cam phaser and alter valve timing. The control module sets P2094 when voltage in that actuator's drive circuit falls below its expected range, potentially leaving exhaust timing on bank 2 unable to respond.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check commanded versus actual bank 2 exhaust cam timing to see when the low-circuit condition is detected.
  2. Inspect the bank 2 exhaust oil control valve connector and harness, especially for insulation worn through or wiring chafed against the engine.
  3. Look for corrosion, bent pins, or poor contact at the bank 2 exhaust actuator connector.
  4. Test the drive circuit for a short to ground and check the oil control valve winding to the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the wiring and valve pass, test the control module's bank 2 exhaust actuator driver using the manufacturer's procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair chafed or shorted-to-ground wiring in the bank 2 exhaust actuator circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded or damaged connector terminals at the bank 2 exhaust oil control valve.
  • Replace the bank 2 exhaust oil control valve if its winding fails testing.
  • Repair or replace the control module only if its driver is confirmed faulty.

Can I keep driving?

A short, gentle drive may be possible if the engine runs normally, but avoid high loads because bank 2 exhaust cam timing may be impaired and drivability or fuel economy can worsen. Stop if the engine stalls or becomes very rough.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
