What it means
Reductant Injection Valve Circuit/Open (Bank 1 Unit 1): the circuit is open. This valve doses reductant (DEF/AdBlue) into the exhaust for SCR NOx reduction.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The reductant injection valve for Bank 1 Unit 1 meters DEF into the exhaust for SCR NOx reduction. The control module monitors the valve's electrical circuit; P2047 sets when that circuit is open, so the valve may not receive the current needed to dose reductant.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Solenoid winding open
- Open wire between PCM and valve
- Connector corroded
Symptoms
- Check engine light or NOx warning on
- AdBlue/DEF level or quality warning
- Possible no-start countdown after ignore period
- Failed emissions inspection (NOx)
How to diagnose it
- Read freeze-frame data and check for related reductant dosing or NOx codes to understand when the Bank 1 Unit 1 valve circuit fault occurred.
- Inspect the Bank 1 Unit 1 injection valve connector and harness for disconnection, corrosion, broken wires, or heat damage near the exhaust.
- Check the connector terminal fit and wiring continuity between the control module and the Bank 1 Unit 1 valve using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- Test the valve solenoid winding and its circuit against the manufacturer's specification to locate the open.
- After repairs, clear the code and verify that the valve circuit operates and the emissions warning does not return.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the Bank 1 Unit 1 valve plug and repair corroded or loose terminals.
- Repair an open wire between the control module and the Bank 1 Unit 1 valve.
- Replace the Bank 1 Unit 1 injection valve if its solenoid winding is open.
Can I keep driving?
The engine may still run normally, but avoid unnecessary driving while a NOx or DEF warning is active. Without Bank 1 Unit 1 dosing, emissions can rise, an inspection may fail, and an ignored warning can lead to a no-start countdown.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
