OBD-II fault code

P0ECB: Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The battery voltage sensor readings do not agree with one another as expected. The module sets this code when multiple monitored readings differ beyond the allowed correlation range.

How it works

The battery control system compares voltage measurements from multiple monitored points in the hybrid or EV battery pack. P0ECB sets when those readings disagree beyond the allowed correlation range, which can result from a sensing-circuit or harness fault, poor connections, or a battery control module problem.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty voltage sensor or sensing circuit
  2. Loose or corroded connections
  3. Damaged battery sensing harness
  4. Battery control module fault

Symptoms

  • Hybrid or EV warning light
  • Reduced power
  • Charging may be limited
  • Vehicle may not enter READY mode

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare the available battery voltage-sensor readings to identify which measurements disagree and whether the vehicle was charging or under load.
  2. Inspect accessible sensing-harness connectors for looseness, corrosion, or damage, without opening the high-voltage battery.
  3. Check the battery sensing harness for visible chafing, pinched sections, or damaged insulation.
  4. Use the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure to test the voltage sensing circuits and compare their readings with the specified values.
  5. If the sensing circuits pass, have the battery control module and pack measurements assessed using the specified high-voltage safety procedures.

Common fixes

  • Secure or clean a loose or corroded sensing-harness connection.
  • Repair damaged battery sensing-harness wiring.
  • Replace a failed voltage sensor or sensing circuit component identified by testing.
  • Repair or replace the battery control module if its fault is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

If the vehicle still enters READY, drive gently and avoid demanding acceleration or charging until the fault is assessed; it may limit power or prevent charging. If it will not enter READY or shows a hybrid or EV warning with reduced power, do not rely on it for a trip.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
