OBD-II fault code

P0EC7: A/C Power Supply Relay Control Circuit Low

What it means

The A/C power supply relay control circuit voltage is lower than expected. The module sets this code when it detects low voltage in the monitored relay control circuit.

How it works

The A/C power supply relay switches electrical power to the air-conditioning system, while its control circuit lets a module command and monitor the relay. P0EC7 sets when the monitored control-circuit voltage is lower than expected, which can happen if the wiring is grounded, the relay coil is faulty, or its power supply is weak.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Short to ground in relay wiring
  2. Faulty relay coil
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Power supply fault

Symptoms

  • A/C may not operate
  • A/C warning light
  • Hybrid or EV warning light

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check A/C and hybrid-system live data to see when the relay command and low-voltage reading occurred.
  2. With the vehicle safely powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect the A/C relay, its connectors, and the control-circuit wiring for looseness, corrosion, damage, or contact with ground.
  3. Check the relay's power supply and ground connections for poor contact or interruption, since a supply fault can pull the monitored circuit low.
  4. Test the relay coil and control-circuit continuity for a short to ground, comparing results with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If wiring, supply, and relay tests pass, check whether the module is commanding the relay and whether its control output is functioning.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure a loose or corroded relay connector.
  • Repair control wiring shorted to ground.
  • Restore a faulty power supply or connection.
  • Replace a relay with a failed coil.

Can I keep driving?

If the A/C is the only affected system, driving may be possible, but you may have no cabin cooling or defogging; avoid driving when visibility depends on working A/C. If a hybrid or EV warning or reduced-power condition appears, stop somewhere safe and follow the vehicle's guidance.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
