What it means
The cell balancing circuit C reports a range/performance condition. Cell-group voltage equalization may be impaired on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Circuit C controls balancing for its assigned cell groups, and the battery management system monitors whether their voltage response stays within its expected range. P0DB7 reports that circuit C's response is outside that range or performance window, even if the circuit is not completely stuck on or off.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Balancing characteristic drifted
- High-resistance contact
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and battery-management codes, noting circuit C command status and the readings for its assigned cell groups.
- Compare C-channel cell-group voltage trends with adjacent groups and circuits A and B under similar charging or operating conditions.
- With the vehicle powered down as directed by the manufacturer, inspect circuit C wiring and connectors for corrosion, damage, looseness, or high-resistance contacts.
- Have a qualified technician test circuit C connections and balancing response against the manufacturer's specification.
- If wiring passes, have the battery management system assess the C balancing component and associated cell-group measurements for drift or internal failure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure a circuit C connector with a confirmed poor contact.
- Repair circuit C wiring that tests as high resistance or intermittent.
- Replace a circuit C balancing component confirmed to be outside its operating range.
- Repair or replace a pack or battery-management internal part only if testing establishes it as the cause.
Can I keep driving?
Keep trips short and avoid high loads until the C-channel performance fault is diagnosed, since range, charging, and available power may decline or become limited. Stop safely if a serious battery warning or limp mode occurs, and do not open the high-voltage pack.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
