OBD-II fault code

P0D3F: Battery Charger A Input Voltage Sensor A Circuit Low

What it means

The signal from the battery charger A input voltage sensor A is below the expected electrical range. The reading may be unreliable.

At a glance

  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Battery Charger A's input-voltage sensor A reports the charger's input voltage to the control module. P0D3F sets when its signal falls below the expected electrical range, which can indicate a signal wire shorted to ground, an internally shorted sensor, or high resistance at a corroded connector.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Charge status indicator shows fault
  • Charging may not start or interrupts
  • Slower-than-expected charge rate

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and check live input-voltage sensor A readings to confirm the signal is low when the code sets.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to its service instructions, inspect sensor A's connector for corrosion, damaged pins, or poor contact.
  3. Inspect the sensor A signal wire for damage or contact with ground, focusing on accessible harness bends and attachment points.
  4. Test the signal circuit for a short to ground and check power, ground, and continuity against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
  5. If wiring and connector checks pass, test input-voltage sensor A for an internal short using the approved procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure corroded or loose sensor A connector terminals.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or otherwise damaged.
  • Replace input-voltage sensor A if testing confirms an internal short.
  • Confirm the input-voltage reading is plausible and charging operates normally.

Can I keep driving?

Charging may fail to start or may be interrupted or slowed because the module sees an abnormally low input-voltage signal. Do not depend on reaching a planned charge level until the fault is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
