OBD-II fault code

P0CC4: Drive Motor A Coolant Pump Control Circuit High

What it means

The control module detected a high signal condition in the drive motor A coolant pump control circuit. Cooling may be affected; the vehicle response depends on the vehicle.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The drive motor A coolant pump control circuit operates the coolant pump for the drive motor. This code sets when the module detects a signal above the expected range, which can happen if the control wire is shorted to battery voltage, the motor circuit is open, or connector contact is poor.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wire shorted to B+
  2. Open motor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and live pump command and motor temperature for signs that the pump is not responding when cooling is requested.
  2. Inspect the drive motor A pump connector and harness for an open, corrosion, pushed-back pins, or insulation damage that could let the signal contact B+.
  3. Test the control wire for a short to B+ and check continuity through the pump circuit using the manufacturer's wiring information.
  4. Test the pump motor for an open and verify connector contact and power and ground paths against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If the pump and harness pass, test the module-side control circuit for an output fault.

Common fixes

  • Repair a control wire shorted to B+ or an open circuit.
  • Reconnect or repair loose, corroded, or pushed-back pump connector terminals.
  • Replace the pump if its motor is open on testing.
  • Repair damaged harness wiring that causes the high signal.
  • Repair a confirmed module-side control fault.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving and avoid heavy loads if the hybrid system warns of high temperature or reduced motor power; the pump may not provide adequate cooling. Stop safely if a temperature warning appears or the vehicle enters limp mode.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
