OBD-II fault code

P0C0D: Drive Motor A Inverter Power Supply Circuit High

What it means

The power supply circuit of drive motor A inverter reports a circuit high condition. Inverter operation may be impaired.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Drive motor A's inverter uses its supply circuit for control and power switching. The control module sets this code when the monitored supply is higher than expected, which can indicate an upstream overvoltage or a wire connected to a higher-voltage source.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Upstream regulator overvoltage
  2. Wire shorted to higher voltage
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and related codes to establish when the high-supply condition occurred and whether other electrical faults were recorded.
  2. With the vehicle powered down according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect drive motor A inverter supply wiring for damage or contact with another power circuit.
  3. Inspect supply connector terminals for corrosion, poor seating or evidence of heat damage that could affect the reading.
  4. Measure the inverter supply under the manufacturer's specified conditions and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. Trace the supply upstream to check for regulator overvoltage or an unintended connection to a higher-voltage circuit.

Common fixes

  • Repair damaged supply wiring that contacts a higher-voltage circuit.
  • Clean or repair corroded or poorly seated inverter supply terminals.
  • Repair the upstream regulator if testing confirms overvoltage.
  • Repair the confirmed inverter supply circuit fault.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid continued driving if power is reduced or the vehicle enters limp mode, since the inverter may restrict drive or shut the vehicle down. Arrange prompt diagnosis.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
