What it means
The ECM detects a circuit range/performance fault on the generator inverter temperature sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator inverter temperature sensor A measures temperature at its assigned location, and the ECM uses its reading to manage hybrid operation and temperature protection. P0BCD sets when the sensor A reading is outside the expected range or does not behave as expected, which can result from sensor drift, displaced mounting, or an aged sensing element.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Hybrid-system warning light may illuminate
- Reduced power or limited hybrid operation
- Temperature-related protective operation may occur
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare sensor A's reading with other available inverter temperature data and ambient conditions to determine whether it is consistently biased or implausible.
- With the vehicle powered down according to service information, inspect sensor A's mounting and connector for displacement, looseness, corrosion, or harness damage.
- Confirm the sensor is seated at its intended location and its wiring is not strained or chafed.
- Use the manufacturer's procedure to check the sensor A circuit and compare its response with the expected temperature behavior.
- If mounting and circuit integrity are confirmed, test sensor A against the manufacturer's specification for drift or aging.
Common fixes
- Secure sensor A in its correct mounting position.
- Clean and reseat the generator inverter temperature sensor A connector.
- Repair damaged wiring in the sensor A circuit.
- Replace sensor A if its readings remain outside specification with correct mounting and wiring.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid hard acceleration and stop if power is limited or an urgent hybrid warning appears. An inaccurate inverter temperature reading can prompt protective operation or leave temperature control without a dependable measurement.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
