What it means
The ECM detects a circuit fault on the generator inverter temperature sensor a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Generator inverter temperature sensor A measures temperature at its assigned location in the generator inverter, and the ECM uses that reading to manage hybrid operation and temperature protection. P0BCC sets when the sensor A circuit has a fault that makes its reading unreliable; the code alone does not distinguish a failed sensor from a wiring or connector problem.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Hybrid-system warning light may illuminate
- Reduced power or limited hybrid operation
- Temperature-related protective operation may occur
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare the sensor A reading with other available inverter temperature data and ambient conditions to identify an implausible value.
- With the vehicle powered down according to service information, inspect the generator inverter sensor A connector and accessible harness for loose terminals, corrosion, or damage.
- Check that sensor A is securely connected and that its wiring is routed without chafing or tension.
- Use the manufacturer's wiring information to test the sensor A circuit for continuity and shorts, and inspect its connector terminals for poor contact.
- If the circuit checks out, test generator inverter temperature sensor A against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reseat or clean the generator inverter temperature sensor A connector.
- Repair damaged wiring or poor terminals in the sensor A circuit.
- Replace sensor A if it fails the specified test.
- Clear the code and verify the temperature reading responds plausibly as the inverter warms.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid demanding acceleration and stop if the vehicle displays an urgent hybrid warning or limits power. With sensor A's reading unreliable, the system may restrict hybrid operation or apply temperature protection without dependable feedback.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
