What it means
The voltage of HV battery C is below the expected window. Cell-group depleted, deeply aged, or sense fault.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Hybrid/EV battery C is a high-voltage battery section or assembly whose voltage the battery control system monitors. P0B2D sets when battery C is below its expected voltage window; an aged or deeply discharged cell group, pack imbalance, or a sensing fault can produce the low reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Cells in group aged - capacity reduced
- Deep discharge event
- Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare battery C's live voltage with other sections, noting whether it is low at rest or falls further under load.
- Review related battery and charging codes and live cell-group data for signs of imbalance or a recent deep-discharge event.
- With the high-voltage system made safe according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect battery C's connections and voltage-sensing wires for corrosion, looseness, or damage.
- Observe battery C voltage during charging and under load to determine whether it recovers or drops more than other sections.
- Test the battery C measurement circuit and cell-group condition against the manufacturer's specifications to distinguish a sensing fault from reduced capacity or imbalance.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded battery C connection.
- Repair damaged wiring in battery C's voltage-sensing circuit.
- Service or replace the aged or imbalanced battery C cell group if testing confirms it cannot maintain the expected voltage.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid hard acceleration, since low battery C voltage can cause reduced power or failed charging. If the vehicle enters limp mode or displays a severe battery warning, stop safely and arrange service.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
