What it means
The control module monitors voltage in hybrid/EV battery B and sets this code when the measured voltage exceeds the expected range. The code identifies a high-voltage condition; it does not by itself establish whether the battery or its sensing circuit caused it.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Hybrid/EV battery B is a high-voltage battery section or assembly monitored by the battery control system. P0B2A sets when the voltage reported for battery B exceeds its allowed range, which may be an actual high voltage or a fault in the measurement circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Battery B voltage above expected range
- Voltage measurement circuit fault
- Loose or poor electrical connection
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Capture freeze-frame data and compare battery B's live voltage with other sections, including data from the time the high reading occurred.
- Check for charging-system or battery codes that could indicate an overcharge condition or a related fault.
- With the high-voltage system made safe using the manufacturer's procedure, inspect battery B's connectors, terminals, and sensing wiring for poor contact, corrosion, or damage.
- Monitor battery B voltage during and after charging to see whether the high reading persists or is intermittent.
- Test battery B's voltage-measurement circuit and section against the manufacturer's specifications to confirm whether the high reading is real.
Common fixes
- Repair a loose or corroded battery B connection.
- Repair damaged wiring or a fault in battery B's voltage-sensing circuit.
- Service the charging system or battery B section if testing confirms an actual excessive voltage.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid charging and keep driving to a minimum until the high-voltage condition is diagnosed, because the system may restrict power or charging to protect the battery. Stop safely if a severe battery warning appears, charging behaves abnormally, or power drops.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
