What it means
The drive motor torque sensor reports a circuit low fault. Motor torque feedback is unreliable. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The motor torque sensor supplies torque feedback to the hybrid control system. This code sets when its circuit signal is lower than expected, which can result from a sensor fault or a connection problem such as a short to ground, corrosion, moisture, or a pushed-back terminal.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Torque sensor failed
- Wiring fault
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or check-engine warning light on
- Reduced hybrid power or acceleration
- Possible rough or inconsistent power delivery
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check torque-sensor live data to confirm the low signal and whether it changes when the fault occurs.
- Inspect the torque-sensor connector seals and terminals for water, corrosion, or a pin pushed back into the connector body.
- Examine the harness for chafing or damage, then gently move accessible sections while watching live data to check for an intermittent change.
- Using the wiring diagram, test the sensor circuit for a short to ground or excessive resistance with the circuit isolated.
- Test the torque sensor and its circuit against the manufacturer's specification before replacing parts.
Common fixes
- Dry and repair a moisture-affected connector, replacing corroded or pushed-back terminals.
- Repair chafed or shorted torque-sensor wiring and secure the harness against further rubbing.
- Replace the torque sensor if its output remains low despite a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Reduced or uneven power can make driving in traffic risky, so avoid hard acceleration and high-speed trips. If limp mode activates or power falls sharply, pull over safely and arrange assistance.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
