OBD-II fault code

P0658: Actuator Supply Voltage A Circuit Low

What it means

Same as P0657 with the supply voltage below the plausible range. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Actuator supply voltage A powers a group of engine actuators, such as injectors, throttle, or EGR components depending on the vehicle. P0658 sets when the control module detects that the voltage on this shared supply is below its expected range, which can disrupt several actuators at once.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Supply voltage low
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible limp mode or no-start
  • Multiple follow-up faults across modules
  • Reset/relearn may be needed after repair

How to diagnose it

  1. Read freeze-frame data and scan for multiple actuator-related codes to identify systems that may share supply A.
  2. Monitor actuator supply voltage and related live data while the fault is present to see whether the low reading is steady or intermittent.
  3. Inspect the supply A fuse, relay, connectors, and harness for corrosion, chafing, loose contacts, or pushed-back pins that add resistance.
  4. Wiggle accessible harness sections while monitoring the voltage to locate an intermittent connection.
  5. Measure voltage drop across the supply path and check relay and connector condition using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Clean or repair a corroded or loose supply connection.
  • Repair chafed wiring or a high-resistance connector in supply A.
  • Replace a faulty relay or fuse after confirming the circuit has no short or overload.
  • Repair the control module output only if testing isolates the fault there.

Can I keep driving?

Low actuator supply can cause rough running, reduced power, stalling, or a no-start. Avoid driving if the engine cuts out or throttle response is unreliable, since several engine functions may be affected together.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
