What it means
A performance fault has been detected in the fuel injector driver circuit for bank 2. The code does not identify a particular driver component or failure mechanism.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The fuel-injector driver circuit switches the injectors on engine bank 2, the bank opposite the one containing cylinder 1 on engines with multiple banks. The control module monitors that driver's performance, and P062E sets when bank 2 operation falls outside the expected range; it does not identify a particular injector or driver part.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open, shorted, or high-resistance injector wiring on bank 2
- Poor injector or control-module connector contact
- Fuel-injector driver circuit fault
- Low or unstable module power or ground
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Misfire or rough idle on the affected cylinder
- Increased fuel consumption
- Possible fuel smell or smoke from exhaust
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check for bank 2 misfire, injector-circuit, and voltage codes to identify the operating conditions and any affected cylinder.
- Review misfire counts and injector command data for bank 2, then compare with the other bank where the scan tool supports it.
- Inspect bank 2 injector connectors and harness routing for corrosion, loose pins, chafing, heat damage, or contamination.
- Test bank 2 injector-driver wiring for opens, shorts, or excessive resistance using the manufacturer's isolation procedure.
- Check control-module power and grounds under load, then test driver operation against the manufacturer's specification before replacing a module.
Common fixes
- Repair damaged or chafed bank 2 injector wiring.
- Clean and secure a loose or corroded bank 2 injector connector.
- Repair a poor control-module power or ground connection.
- Repair a confirmed bank 2 injector-driver circuit fault.
- Reprogram or replace the control module only when circuit and power checks confirm the need.
Can I keep driving?
If bank 2 is misfiring or the exhaust smells of fuel, avoid driving because unburned fuel can damage the catalytic converter. If the engine runs smoothly, keep the trip short and gentle, and stop if it begins to misfire or lose power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
