What it means
Same as P05C2 with intermittent or erratic signal. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
How it works
The engine coolant pressure sensor sends a pressure signal to the control module. P05C6 sets when that signal is intermittent or erratic, often because vibration or harness movement briefly disrupts the sensor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent contact at connector
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Coolant pressure reading may fluctuate or disappear
- A separate cooling-system fault may cause overheating or coolant loss
How to diagnose it
- Save the freeze-frame data and use live data to see whether the coolant-pressure reading drops out or jumps as the fault occurs.
- Inspect the sensor connector for loose fit, corrosion, moisture, damaged seals, or terminals that have backed out.
- With the reading displayed, gently move the connector and harness and note whether the signal becomes unstable.
- Trace the harness for chafing or contact with a vibrating component, then check connector tension and circuit continuity using the wiring diagram.
- If the wiring remains stable, test the sensor output against the manufacturer's specification, especially under the conditions that trigger the fault.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose connector and clean or replace corroded terminals.
- Repair chafed wiring and reroute or secure the harness away from vibration and heat.
- Replace a damaged connector seal or terminal that cannot maintain reliable contact.
- Replace the pressure sensor if its output is erratic with a sound circuit.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine temperature is normal and there is no coolant loss, you may be able to drive cautiously while monitoring for overheating, but the pressure reading may disappear or be unreliable. Stop if temperature rises or coolant leaks, because a separate cooling-system fault can worsen unnoticed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
